Reiki is a system of stress reduction and relaxation developed in Japan by Usui Mikao in the early 20th century. Experienced practitioners gently place their hands on or slightly above a client’s body while the client comfortably sits in a chair or lies fully clothed on a massage table. Reiki treatments work with the parasympathetic nervous system to lower stress and anxiety and increase feelings of well-being and relaxation. Reiki has no known medical contraindications and can be performed on anyone who is open to receiving it.
