We are passionate about reaching the communities that we serve. As our population ages, knowledge about community resources, hospice, choices, and end-of-life care are essential. Yolo Hospice is actively engaged in the community, providing educational events, bereavement services and fundraising opportunities. You can find future events listed on our Events Page.
As a partner for the community, we strive to provide:
- Education about the choices available
- Help to know the right questions to ask
- Information when a patient has decided that comfort is their main goal and they no longer wish to access care in the hospital
- Understanding of how Yolo Hospice can make a difference
Yolo Hospice attends many community events. Our staff members are available for consultation about hospice and other services available in the community, and we’re happy to provide materials to read at home.
The Yolo Hospice Speaker’s Bureau
The Yolo Hospice Speaker’s Bureau reaches the public through civic, community or faith group meetings. The Yolo Hospice team goes to speak to the members of these groups about hospice service, to discuss end of life issues and answer questions.
Here are two of the topics we can present on:
Hospice 101: This presentation includes a video which reviews some of the benefits of hospice, as well as a poignant interview with the husband of a Yolo Hospice patient (the video is available to view on Youtube). During the presentation, Yolo Hospice team members also do their best to inform the attendees about hospice and the care Yolo Hospice provides.
Advance Directives: An advance directive is a legal document that appoints someone to make medical decisions for you if you cannot speak for yourself. Advance directives are important for anyone over the age of 18, but are particularly helpful to those who suffer from a chronic or progressive illness, a serious health condition or are medically frail.
Any group in the community can request a presentation on Hospice 101, Advance Directives or another topic by calling Yolo Hospice at (530) 758-5566.
