Many people believe that hospice is to be called only when death is imminent. They wait until their loved one’s final days. Ninety-nine percent of patients’ loved ones wish they had called us sooner. When hospice is brought in as early as possible, the patient and their family take greater advantage and benefit from Yolo Hospice’s support, education, and care. In fact, statistics show that hospice care often extends a patient’s life by a number of days. We will care for a patient for as long as they are clinically qualified, which could be days, weeks or even months. Hospice assistance can make a difference in the quality of your and your loved ones’ lives.
These are some indicators that it may be time for hospice care. Has your loved one:
- become weaker and lost some physical functioning?
- experienced frequent hospitalizations?
- required assistance with many or most activities of daily living, e.g. grooming, bathing, or eating?
- experienced numerous simultaneous illnesses or physical problems?
- lost significant weight?
If these things are happening, it may be the right time to begin hospice care. Don’t worry that your assessment might not be correct. Our helpful staff can answer your questions and help you decide whether you are in need of hospice care. Calling isn’t a commitment. It’s an opportunity to learn about your options and prepare. Please allow us to discuss your concerns and the many ways Yolo Hospice can help.
